The Golf is a popular, fantastic car. But in the US, the Jetta is the better choice for those who like to haul stuff. If you can’t decide between the Golf and Jetta TDI, maybe this will help you.

The Jetta has a separate trunk, which is very versatile. I once bought two 36″x30″ and one 18″x30″ kitchen wall cabinets at Ikea. I backed up my 2010 Jetta TDI to the loading area and proceeded to fold down the rear seats. To my surprise, the seats didn’t need to go down at all! Even more suprising was the fact that I was able to lay all the cabinet boxes and material flat on the trunk floor. And to top it all off, there was no funky contortion necessary to maneuver the gigantic packages in and out of the car. It was cavernous!

Here are some nifty features of the mk5/mkv Jetta trunk:

  • 60/40 fold down rear seats (Lockable latch from inside the cabin is easy to use)
  • Ski pass through (Lockable latch from inside cabin, with latch access from cabin or trunk)
  • Full size spare tire and tool kit under floor
  • 12v power outlet
  • Side storage bin
  • Shopping bag hook
